Book an Appointment
Book an Appointment Online
The quickest and easiest way to request an appointment is by using our secure online system. This allows our clinical team to review your request and respond safely and efficiently. You don’t need an app, just access to the internet.
Any minor issues can be addressed quickly and conveniently over the phone, saving time for you and our clinical team. GP will review the online request and if we need to see you in person, we will invite you to come in.
You may get a phone call or will be issued with treatment as per their clinical judgement. Please check for any responses , be available to answer your phone after submitting your request and be aware that the GP may call from a withheld or unknown number. If we are unable to contact you, this may delay your care.
Urgent Problems
If your problem is urgent, please submit your online request as early in the day as possible. You should add the information accurately on our online system, and every effort will be made for you to be seen the same day.
When submitting an online request, and any of your conditions is identified as emergency, you will get a response that your condition requires urgent attention, and it is not appropriate for them to submit an online request at this time. Please telephone 01622 753 920 immediately so we can assist you.

Sickness Certificates (Fit Notes)
You must give your employer a doctor's 'fit note' (sometimes called a 'sick note') if you've been ill for more than 7 days in a row and have taken sick leave. This includes non-working days, such as weekends and bank holidays.

Home Visits
Please be aware that our GPs will always call to assess the home visit request first.
If you need a home visit, you can help us by calling reception between 9am and 11am.

Home visits are only made if the doctor decides that the patient is too seriously ill to travel or is housebound and needs to be seen at home.

Out of Hours
Enhanced Access
The Medical Centre Group offers Enhanced Access Appointments on top of our normal appointments. These appointments will be held either at The Medical Centre or another Maidstone Central Primary Care Network practice.
Maidstone Central Primary Care Network (PCN) consists of four practices working together to improve the health of registered patients. Maidstone Central PCN member practices are: The Medical Centre, The Vine Medical Practice, Bower Mount Medical Practice and Brewer Street Surgeries.
Maidstone Central PCN offers appointments:
- Monday to Friday, 6:30pm to 8pm
- Saturday, 9am to 5pm
At either your registered practice or another PCN member practice, in addition to the core practice opening hours of 8am to 6:30pm Monday to Friday.
This means you will be able to see a GP, nurse or other health professional at a time which is most convenient for you. Services offered will include GP appointments, vaccinations, health checks, screening services and physiotherapy.
Appointments will be available at one of the following practices:
- The Medical Centre Group
- The Vines Medical Practice
- Bower Mount Medical Practice
- Brewer Street Surgery
Please contact your registered practice for further information.
Life Threatening
Call 999 or go to A&E now if:
- you or someone you know needs immediate help
- you have seriously harmed yourself – for example, by taking a drug overdose
A mental health emergency should be taken as seriously as a medical emergency.
Urgent But Not Life Threatening
Visit an urgent care centre if:
- You have an urgent medical issue requiring on the day attention
Non-urgent
Use NHS 111 if:
- You need help now, but it’s not an emergency
There will be someone to provide you with advice and to direct you to a clinician if it is necessary.
Mental Health Crisis
If you need urgent mental health crisis support, please call 111 and select the option for mental health when prompted to speak to a specially-trained mental health practitioner.

If you get any eye injury, contact any local Acute Primary Care Ophthalmology Service.
Care Navigation
Please don’t be offended if you are asked what the problem is when you ring to book an appointment.
This is called Care Navigation, and it’s about helping you get to the service you need!
About Care Navigation
When you contact us, you will be asked by your receptionist for a brief outline of your problem. This is because we operate something called “Care Navigation”. It means we are training receptionists and clerical staff to help them help patients by identifying the most appropriate place for their care.
Through this specialist training, our practice team will be able to direct you to the most appropriate health clinician for your needs first.
Receptionists will never offer clinical advice or triage; this new way of working is about offering you the choice to see more appropriate professionals in the practice team or even somewhere else. If they can deal with the problem directly, it will often be quicker and means you may not need to see the GP at all.
By working this way, it helps to free up time for GPs to care for patients with complex or serious health conditions that can only be managed by the GP. More importantly though, it means people are seen first by the clinician that is best placed to manage their clinical problem.
The choice is always yours though and you will never be refused a GP appointment but we hope next time you contact your GP and speak with the receptionist you will see the value of seeing another health professional if they are able to help.
